On May 3rd at Breitbeck Park, local families and business leaders will join together in the March of Dimes annual March for Babies—the nation's oldest walk fundraiser honoring babies born healthy and those who need help to survive and thrive.

This year's Oswego March for Babies Family Teams Chairs, Jason and Jennifer Goodberry of Team Walk for Grace, know how important the mission of the March of Dimes is. They were inspired to support the March of Dimes in the fight to give every baby a healthy start after the loss of their second child, Grace—born stillborn at 37 weeks, and whom they walk in honor of today.

Registration begins at 10:00am with the 2-mile walk kicking off at 11:00am. Participation in March for Babies will provide a memorable and rewarding day for the whole family including music, face painting, Kid Zone provided by Lowe's, a picnic lunch and more. Mayor Thomas Gillen of the City of Oswego is scheduled to speak at the event. To register for an event in your community, visit www.marchforbabies.org.

Funds raised by March for Babies in New York help support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, newborn intensive care unit (NICU) family support programs and advocacy efforts for stronger, healthier babies.

The 2014 March for Babies is sponsored nationally by Kmart, Macy's, Cigna, Sanofi Pasteur, Famous Footwear, Actavis, Mission Pharmacal, and United. Locally, it is sponsored by Empower Federal Credit Union.

The March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Premature birth is the most urgent infant health problem in the U.S. today. It affects nearly half a million babies each year, including 541 in New York each week. The March of Dimes is committed to funding research to find the answers to problems that continue to threaten the lives and the health of babies.
