Born in Fulton, she was a daughter of the late Edwin Smith Sr. and Mary (Andrews) Smith.
She was employed at Hillcrest Nursing home for eight years.
She enjoyed gambling, scratch off tickets and gardening.
Mrs. Mellen is survived by her three daughters, Deborah (David) Shannon, of the town of Oswego, Mary Elizabeth (James) Gardner, of Syracuse, and Diane (Jon Secrest) Henry of the town of Oswego; one brothers, David L. Smith of Annapolis, Md.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hollis M. Mellen, on Dec. 13, 2012; a son, Steven; and a brother, Edwin R. Smith Jr.
A calling hour will be held from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St., in Oswego, with a service to follow.
Spring burial will be in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
