Mark Roth to appear at NYS Senior Women's Tournament at Lighthouse Lanes, Sunday

     Mark RothFormer professional bowler and PBA Hall of Famer Mark Roth will make an appearance from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Lighthouse Lanes, in Oswego, during the NYS Senior Women's Tournament.

     Roth is a two-time PBA Senior Tour champion, banking more than $1.6 million during his career. He won Bowling Writers Association of America Bowler of the Year honors in 1977, '78, '79 and '84 and was inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame in 1987.
     Roth began the Pro-Bowling Tour in 1970 and was the first PBA player to ever convert the seven-ten split on national television; the first player to receive the PBA four-time Player of the Year award,;the PBA Senior Player of the Year and he was the only PBA player to receive eight titles in one year.
     He won more than 34 PBA titles, nine regional titles, the Number 7 Tournament title, the Great and the Greatest title and two Senior PBA titles.
     In 1984, Roth received the Victor award, recognizing him as one of the greatest bowlers of all time. He has made more than100 television appearances, including an episode of Fantasy Island and appeared in the movies, Kingpin with Woody Harrelson and Greedy with Michael J. Fox. Roth is recognized in the Public School Athletic Hall of Fame, New York's Sports Museum and Hall of Fame, the International Jewish Hall of fame and PBA Hall of Fame.
     Roth suffered a stroke in 2009 and he and his wife Denise moved back to her hometown in Fulton so they would have family support as Roth recovered.
     In 2012, the Roths came upon the opportunity to operate the Pulaski Bowling Center, located at Salina Street, in Pulaski. The couple have big plans for the bowling alley which includes bringing in some big names in bowling from time to time for appearances and to sign autographs.
     Sunday marks the final day of the two-weekend tournament, which brought in 574 women bowlers from all of the state of New York. The bowlers ranged in age from 50 plus and, impressively, the largest category of bowlers was age 75 and older.
