Write a commentMartin `Skip` Rose, 82, a resident of the Hayfly Road in the Town of Scriba, passed away Friday, at the Oswego Hospital.
Skip was born in Oswego, the son of the late Martin and Madelyne (Fyle) Rose. He was a life resident. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for more than 50 years as a pipefitter with Local #73 in Oswego. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1951 to 1955. Skip was an enthusiastic golfer, and scored several holes-in-one during his playing days. Through good times and difficult times, Skip's faith in God was always strong. More than anything else, he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Donna (Leavens) Rose of Scriba; a daughter, Lara (Brian) Hoyt of Oswego; six sons, Kirk (Karen) Rose of San Antonio, TX, Daniel Rose of Syracuse, Marty (Cathy) Rose of Webster, Matthew (Renae) Rose of Kernersville, NC, Michael (Lisa) Rose of Oswego, and Brian (Shirley) Rose of Rutland, VT; a sister, Madelyne Ellingwood of Oswego; and two grandchildren, Sierra and Asia, whom he raised as his own children. In addition, he is survived by 14 other grandchildren, Jason, Brandy, Angela, Whitney, Marty, Matthew, Michelle, Amanda, Danielle, Mattison, Jake, Meghan, Casey, and Lindsay; five great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his best friend, William "Wimpy" Germain.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Kevin John Rose; and a sister, Alta Bogart.
Skip received wonderful care from the entire staff at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego. In turn, his good nature and caring personality brought pleasure to all who knew him.
Memorial services will be held at 7:00pm Monday, at the New Covenant Community Church.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00pm Monday, prior to the service, at the church, 13 East Oneida Street in Oswego.
Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; or to the Oswego Community Christian School.
