Born in Verdun, France on February 13th, 1956 to John and Mary Burns, Beth grew up in the town of Webster, NY. She attended SUNY Cortland where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree. She went on to complete her Master of Science in Education in 1983. Beth started her career at A. A. Cole Elementary School in the Central Square School District, before moving to the Oswego City School District (OCSD) where she taught for 30 years. She was a beloved educator and named “Teacher of the Year” in 2006 by the OCSD.
Beth first met Jim in July of 1982 when her aunt, Margaret Falise, introduced them on a blind date. They were married a year later. Beth and Jim were blessed with three beautiful children and two grandchildren. Her love for them lit up her life. Beth was a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved her family with a warmth and selflessness that they will always hold dear.
Beth was a vibrant and cherished member of both the Oswego, NY and Venice, FL communities. She had an energetic spirit and a zest for life. She found joy in playing pickleball, baking treats for loved ones, practicing yoga, cycling, golfing, and painting pottery. But more than any activity, Beth treasured every moment spent with her family and friends. She was happiest surrounded by the laughter of her loved ones.
Beth will be remembered for the countless ways she uplifted others. She had a gift for making people feel seen and cared for—her kindness, generosity, and comforting nature touched everyone lucky enough to know her.
