A mid-May, Sunday morning calls for an adventure! The Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center will embark on an outdoor Forest Safari on Sunday, May 15th, at 9:00 a.m.

Environmental educators will discuss the variety of animals (beaver, waterfowl, amphibians, insects, and more) that use the property, and how and why they determine it suitable habitat before going out and possibly spotting those animals, just like a real safari! Participants will be walking the Beaver Marsh Trail, looking and listening for signs of animals living at or visiting the nature center. We will have binoculars available to borrow, but you are welcome to bring your own. We recommend boots or shoes that can get wet or muddy as we will go outside even if it is raining. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

Have you ever wondered what amphibians might be living in your backyards in Oswego County? Come visit the Amboy 4-H Environmental Education Center on Saturday, May 21st at 1:00 p.m. where our environmental educators will be celebrating Herpepalooza! and they will be discussing herpetology, or the study of amphibians. Then, they will lead participants around the nature center looking for native frogs, toads, salamanders, and newts (oh my!). Now that its springtime, these amphibians are living, swimming and breeding in the various vernal pools, wetlands, and waterways located around the environmental education center. Participants will have the opportunity to be scientists for the day making new discoveries and having hands-on experiences!

The fee for each of these programs is only $4 per person, up to $12 per family, and children under three are free! Preregistration is requested. For more information and to register, visit http://thatscooperativeextension.org/events.
