Mayor William Barlow, members of the City Council and other local dignitaries visited the Oswego Fire Department at its headquarters on Thursday to commemorate the 145th anniversary of the department's founding.
Fire Chief Randy Griffin welcomed those in attendance, then introduced the OFD's chaplain, Rev. John Cannorro for a blessing. Mayor Barlow then came to the podium to address those present about the fire department's mission and its future. Chief Griffin then spoke about the OFD's history and its embracing of new technology as it forges ahead into the future.
Mayor Barlow and Chief Griffin performed a dress inspection of the fire department's rank and file, and presented each member with a challenge coin commemorating the occasion.
Two members, FF/Paramedic Eric Mills and FF/Medic Carl Emmons Jr., were presented with a citation for their heroic actions during a river rescue earlier this month. Deputy Chief Paul Conzone was also recognized for his actions as the first person on the scene at a major automobile accident on Rt 481 in Clay while off duty on Wednesday.
