IHO: How long have you lived in Oswego?
AJ: I grew up in the Southern Tier, but moved to Oswego in 1986. I started my construction business here in 1993.
IHO: Has owning a business/this type of business always been the dream?
AJ: Construction and working with my hands was the dream. My Grandfather was a pattern maker for GE. I worked in his workshop alongside him starting around the age of 4, and have never stopped building things. Owning my own business was never part of the plan, but through the encouragement of several individuals, I decided to make the jump.
IHO: When you aren’t busy running your business, what can you be found doing?
AJ: Family life is very important to me, and so when not working I can be found participating in my kids’ sporting events. I also enjoy outdoor hobbies and reading.
IHO: What project are you proudest of/was the most fun to create?
AJ: I have always liked historical restorations. There are unique challenges that come with historical restorations, challenges that require creativity and a different perspective than modern builds. When the job is complete and the finished product is considered historically accurate I’m definitely proud of the effort involved. A few of the more notable restorations that I’ve been involved with are the Wayne’s Drug facade and several homes in the Franklin Square Historical neighborhood.
IHO: What was the best community experience you’ve had since starting your business here?
AJ: I’m a people person, and one of my passions is developing relationships with people in the community. I find that my contracts typically develop into more than just work, there is a genuine care for my clients that has left me with many true friendships throughout the years.
