OHS Senior Joscelyn Coniski has been making a splash for her accomplishments on the swim team.
Coniski is headed to states for the fourth year in a row, competing in the 100m butterfly. She has been named Scholar Athlete by Oswego High School every year she's been on the team and was recently named Athlete of the Week by Oswego County News Now. The competition will take place at the Webster Aquatic Center next weekend, November 22-23. Currently, Coniski is 1st overall on the Bucs team and 14th in Section III.
“I’m really excited to go,” Coniski told iHeart Oswego. She credits her hard work and dedication in helping her once again qualify for states.
While this may be her last time attending as a competitor, she hopes to see her team mates competing there in the near future. “[Ninth-grader] Nora Newell is really good at the 500-meter, and she definitely has potential,” Coniski noted. She’s also got her eye on up-and-coming eighth-grader Sophie DeCaire, whose strength is the 50 free. The friendly, outgoing senior was hugely positive about her team mates, praising the skills and potential of up-and-coming students.
During the season, Coniski just focuses on swimming. After states is over, though, she is planning to participate in the school musical, which will be a production of Newsies. She’s also an active member of the travel club, creative writing club, and the WBC (Oswego High School’s student-run media). Outside of school, she’s planning to take several classes at the Oswego YMCA to keep in shape.
Post-graduation, Coniski is planning a gap year before attending either military academy or an Ivy League school. There, she hopes to continue swimming and pursue either a pre-med or communications and journalism track.
We at iHeart Oswego love to see our youth doing such impressive things, and we wish everyone on the Bucs swim teams best of luck at the competition next week!
