Minetto Elementary School Spreads Kindness

Minetto Elementary School students have sprinkled holiday cheer around their school with a 25 Acts of Kindness initiative.

School counselor Alexandra Kesselring organized the effort for Minetto staff members and students in pre-kindergarten through grade six to form stronger bonds, promote appreciation and spread smiles.

“It’s all about spreading kindness,” she said. “It’s the season of giving.”

While any act of kindness will do, Kesselring came up with the following 25 free-and-easy suggestions: hold the door open for someone, feed the birds, write a nice note for the school library media specialist, let someone go ahead of you in line, pick up litter, write a note to your mail carrier, tell someone why they are special to you, tell the principal why your teacher is awesome, talk to someone new at school, donate a can of food, write a thank you note to a firefighter or police officer, smile at everyone you see, make your sibling’s bed, compliment your teacher, give someone a hug coupon, say thank you when you see a service member, bring your neighbor’s garbage can up for them, write chalk messages on the sidewalk, read to someone, call your grandparents and ask about their childhood, teach someone something new, do a chore for someone in your family, tell a funny joke, help make dinner and clean the kitchen and be nice to yourself.

Throughout the month of December, each Minetto classroom has kept track of all acts of kindness its students have completed. While a winning classroom will receive a cookie party, Kesselring said everyone at Minetto Elementary wins by being kind and having that reciprocated.
