Minetto Students Qualify for Spelling Bee Regional Finals

Four Minetto Elementary School students have earned a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee Regional Finals after a hard-run and narrowly-decided qualifying competition.

Fifth-grader Jaxson Golembeski took first place and will be joined by fellow Minetto students Mathew Carr, Jr. (sixth grade), Daniel Callen (fourth grade) and Zachary Munger (fifth grade) in the Regional Finals, to be held at Oswego High School on March 17.

The Minetto Bee went more than a dozen rounds, with the top four spellers knotted up for several rounds before Golembeski broke the stalemate with the word “paralysis.”

The winner of the March 17 Regional Finals will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee, held in Washington, D.C.
