Since its inception, Harborfest has relied upon the priceless crew of dedicated volunteers who put in countless hours to make the festival a success.

The festival also strives to cultivate healthy behaviors, as well as encouraging growth of knowledge through hands on activities, in the thousands of children who visit the festival each year.

This year, Ben Turner of Murdock’s Bicycles and Sports donated a bike and a scooter to Harborfest for the festival’s volunteer giveaway and for the children’s Summer Fitness Challenge, sponsored by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau.

For every hour that a volunteer worked, they were entered for a chance to win the bike. The winner this year was Robert Fisher

KidWinThe winner of a blue razor scooter was Aiden Cornelius, for his participation in the Summer Fitness Challenge. Challenges included a kickball tournament, a Soul Hooping workshop with Heather Plyler, games and activities at Movies in the Park, and the Harborfest Storywalk, featuring the children’s book Oh, The Things You Can Do That Are Good For You, by Tish Rabe.

Executive Director Peter Myles commented, “I would firstly like to thank our volunteers for their unwavering support to us. It means a lot that we have both familiar and new faces each year, and that they donate their time to help during the festival. I want to thank Murdock’s for their generous support as well. They’ve always gone above and beyond in their support of the festival. I would also like to recognize the Oswego City County Youth Bureau, the Harborfest Children’s committee, and all the parents and participants of all the Summer Fitness Challenge and other activities. Promoting wellness in our children is something so crucial in this day and age.”
