Nelson F. Butler, 72, a resident of Oswego passed away Oct. 25 at Crouse Hospital, in Syracuse.
Born in Rome, he was a son of the late Rev. George and Esther (Frost) Butler. He was a graduate of the Oswego High School and had attended the Utica College of Syracuse.
He retired from Niagara Mohawk in 2006 after 42 years of service.
Mr. Butler was a veteran of the United States Marines, serving from 1960-1964.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge #271, Sportsman #35 and the I.B.E.W #328. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed woodworking.
Surviving are his longtime companion, Deborah Colloca, of Oswego; two sons, Michael (Kelly Saxe) Butler, of Auburn, and Curtis (Elizabeth) Butler, of Canastota; a brother, James (Margaret) Butler, of Oswego; three sisters, Eleanor (Rick) Rainwater, of Lexington, Ky., Sue Anne (Timothy) Pelyk, of Port Perry, Ontario,and Mary Jane (Edward) Laflamm, of Franklin N.C.; three stepsons, Scott Everts and Kevin Everts, both of Liverpool, and Todd Everts, of Charlotte; a stepdaughter, Katherine (Thomas) Bowen, of DeRuyter; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his stepson, Timothy Everts.
Funeral services will be private for family and close friends.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Dowdle Funeral Home, 154 E. Fourth St., in Oswego.
