Write a commentA ribbon-cutting was held on Friday to celebrate the reopening of the historic Legends Fields Complex on Churchill Road in Oswego.
Champions Events is the operating company for the six-field complex, and following the completion of the 2023 season they embarked on an ambitious project to update and upgrade the 30 year old facility. In partnership with Oswego County, Champions has had turf infields installed on all six fields, the central court and sidewalks improved, and the 300-space parking area paved.
Champions Events will host an extensive schedule of youth softball and baseball tournaments throughout the spring, summer, and fall seasons. "Teams from all across New York State and the northeast region will come to Oswego County to compete in these extremely competitive tournaments, bringing tourism dollars to the county," said Jim Weatherup, chairman of the Oswego County Legislature.
Joining Chairman Weatherup for today's ribbon cutting were City of Oswego Mayor Rob Corradino, County Legislative Majority Leader Paul House, Legislators Charles Burger and Robert Wilmott, as well as Dan Martin representing Congresswoman Claudia Tenney and Tracy Digenova from Governor Kathy Hochul's staff.
The Opening Weekend Tournament kicked off with simultaneous first pitches being thrown on all six fields, with more than a dozen games in several age groups of youth softball taking place throughout the weekend.
Justin Arsenault of Champions Events said, "We are pleased to have events scheduled nearly every weekend from now through the Harborfest Weekend Tournament in July, with additional tournaments in September and October."
