The Oswego Middle School National Junior Honor Society conducted its annual induction ceremony on Sunday, May 4 as a dozen students signed the membership book and took the oath.

The newest inductees were honored at ceremonies in the Oswego High School Robinson-Faust Theatre for the Performing Arts.

“Scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship” are the pillars of the National Junior Honor Society.

Welcomed and recognized as members of the NJHS were Jenna Bradshaw, Nicholas Brown,  Jillian Dowdle, Sophia Griffiths, Kelly Lizotte, Elyse Maniccia, Elizabeth Martin, Clarissa Miller, Olivia Rando, Dylan Reitz, Dane Richardson and Sydney-Yu Terpening.

Principal Mary Beth Fierro has seen her dream of having a National Junior Honor Society realized.

Addressing the inductees she said, “This is only the beginning for you. Your are leaders and with that leadership comes great responsibility to make well thought out decisions at all times.”

Continuing she said, “We will watch you with pride as you continue your careers at the Oswego Middle School, Oswego High School and beyond. Today please take a moment to thank you parents, grandparents and teachers for the support and encouragement they have given you.”

Chapter officers President Claudia Chetney, Vice-President Emily Bradshaw, Secretary Laurin Furlong and Treasurer Eleanor Lisec as well as NJHS Faculty Advisors Danielle Rombough and Sue Roik were all present to congratulate the latest inductees and assisted in the ceremony.

The ceremony was the first of two that afternoon as academic success was celebrated later with the induction for the Oswego High School Owl’s Head Chapter of the National Honor Society.
