At 9:24am this morning, the Oswego Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire at 154 West 5th Street in the City of Oswego.

Firefighters arrived minutes later and confirmed flames and smoke were coming from the basement and first floor area of the large home. All occupants were reported out at that time.

Firefighters stretched hoselines and entered the basement and first floor areas of the home to begin extinguishing the flames. When the visible fire was knocked down, Firefighters overhauled the wall and floor areas to reveal hidden pockets of fire. The fire was declared under control after about 30 minutes. There were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Oswego Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Oswego Police Department, Fulton Fire Department, Novelis Emergency Services, Oswego County Fire Coordinators Office, Menter Ambulance, and the City of Oswego Code Enforcement Department.

Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone stated, “Our Firefighters did a tremendous job saving this home and keeping damage to a minimum. This fire required quick and complex overhaul to keep the flames from spreading, and our Firefighters were up for the challenge. Because of their efforts, the residents were able to reoccupy the home after the fire.”
