Norman H. Smith, 94 and a resident of Oswego passed away Thursday morning at St. Luke Health Services, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Fulton and was the son of the late Leon and Lillian McNamara Smith.
His wife, Esther Lockwood Smith passed away May 18, 2013.
Mr. Smith had been employed for many years in the maintenance department at SUNY Oswego.
He served in the US Navy stationed in the South Pacific during WWII aboard PT-376 as Gunners Mate 3rd Class. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved nature.
Mr. Smith is survived by three daughters Sharon A. Smith of Oswego, Jeanette M. (Pat) Whitehouse of New Smyrna, FL, Theresa J. Ciappa (Scott McCall) of Baldwinsville, NY, two brothers James Smith and Patrick Smith both of Fulton, two sisters Jane Rawson of Mexico and Marion Arcadi both of Fulton, eight grandchildren, Traci Young Terpening, Dawn Donahue Fernandez, Todd Donahue, Anthony Ciappa, Gregory Smith, Anastasia Smith, Miranda Smith, Adam Smith, eleven great grandchildren, Alexander Fernandez, Brianna Fernandez, John Patrick Ciappa, Nathaniel Smith, Abigail Donahue, Sydney Yu Terpening, Daniel Donahue, Samantha Hua Terpening, Emma Ciappa, Sammy Ciappa and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a son Doug Smith who died in 1998 and a son Daniel Smith who died in 2015, three brothers Ernest Smith, William Smith, Leon “Rocky” Smith, one sister Cora Lindsley.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:00AM Wednesday, November 28, in St. Mary's Church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made to Honor Flight Syracuse, Inc or a charity of your choice.
