Write a commentThe Oswego Fire Department is pleased to be offering another free community safety event this weekend.
The 2017 Oswego Fire Department Fall Open House & Safety Day will take place on Saturday, September 30th from 11am-3pm. This popular event will be held at the Oswego Fire Department Headquarters, located at 35 East Cayuga Street. This event is strategically planned to coincide with the CNY Pumpkin Festival, held on the same weekend just a block away. This community safety event also helps to kick off the upcoming Fire Prevention Week, which begins on October 8th.
Over 20 public safety and community service agencies are expected to be on hand for the event doing demonstrations and handing out safety materials to the public. Oswego Fire Department will be offering station and apparatus tours, fire safety tips, and our mascots are even slated to make an appearance. The Oswego Police Department will be doing K-9 demonstrations, while the Oswego County Sheriff’s Department will be distributing Safe Child ID’s. The NYSP will be bringing the vehicle rollover simulator, and the Oswego County Traffic Safety Board will be helping to check child safety seats. The US Coast Guard, US Army, US Border Patrol, Menter Ambulance, Council on Alcoholism, and Oswego Health will also be at the event providing important information and doing demonstrations. Oswego County will have several agencies on hand for the event, including the Emergency Response Training Center, Health Department, Youth Bureau, Stop-DWI, Cancer Services, Migrant Health, 911, and Emergency Management.
As always, there will be plenty of fun things for the kids to do at the event, such as facepainting by Char Himple, slime making and rock painting courtesy of Girl Scout Troop #10361, and basketball provided by our friends from the US Army.
