Liverpool upended
A key volleyball match up took place at Liverpool Friday night, Sept. 20, as the Oswego High School boys went to do battle against a solid opponent.
Oswego remained unbeaten with a three game sweep of the host team. The Bucs won 25-12, 25-21 and 25-21.
"We spent time this week working on blocking and covering our hitters on offense," Coach Mike Shea said. "We did both of those things really well against Liverpool."
Once again, the Bucs had a solid team effort as Josh Carney finished with 24 assists, three ace and two kills and Zach Gillard had 13 kills, three aces, five blocks and a dig.
Logan Krass finished with five kills, a block and ace, Pat Dillon four kills and an assist while Drazen Schrecengost had an ace, kill and block, Trevor Bradshaw an ace and kill, Mike Edwards an ace, kill and two assists and Emmet O'Brian two digs.
Tennis battles two foes
The Oswego varsity tennis team traveled to West Genesee to take on the Wildcats Saturday, Sept. 21. Oswego dropped a 5-1 decision to West Genesee 5-1 before third singles Samantha Davis could finish the match when the rain arrived.
Taking home the only win for the Bucs was first singles, Kelly Skinner who defeated Rachel Gillett 6-4 6-2.
Second singles, Meredith Chesare was defeated 7-6, 6-3 in an exciting match where both girls rallied long and hard for each point.
Playing together for the first time, Sydney Knight and Molly Malone were defeated 6-2, 6-4.
In other matches, first double team Rana Al-Salameh and Krysta Broeker were defeated 6-1, 6-1. The Buc's third doubles team of Emilee Anderson and Kennedy Singletary lost 6-2, 6-1 while fourth doubles Hannah Broadwell and Abigail Allen were also defeated 6-2, 6-1.
Oswego traveled to Liverpool Friday night and in an exciting match where three of the sets ended in tie-breakers, Liverpool defeated Oswego in a 6-1 decision.
Taking home the only win for Oswego was the Bucs' second doubles team Katie Knopp and Molly Malone, Oswego dropped the first set, 6-3 but came back to win two consecutive sets 7-6 and 6-1. The second set proved to be a close match, ending with a tie breaker. Oswego rallied Liverpool point for point during the tie breaker before winning the second set's tie breaker 9-7.
First singles Sydney Knight was defeated 6-1 in the first set but attempted to come back in the second set before losing 7-6.
First doubles teams Kelly Skinner and Meredith Chesare rallied the first set into a tie breaker, before losing 7-6, 6-1.
Jayvee soccer loss
The Oswego boys jayvee soccer team started slow on Saturday morning and paid the price in a 3-1 loss to host Nottingham.
The Bucs gave up three early goals, but eventually settled down and began to play decent soccer.
Late in the first half Buc Dawson Izyk found himself in a footrace toward the Nottingham goal when he was fouled by a defender. On the ensuing free kick, Izyk sent a ball along the front of the Nottingham goal that found its way over the keeper and into the far side of the net. The goal gave the Bucs some life headed into half time, unfortunately they could not find the back of the net in the second half and came away with the 3-1 defeat.
"I thought we played better in the second half, it just took us too long to get going," Coach Don Fronk said. "The early goals hurt us, otherwise I thought we played well today."
