Oswego Community Youth Orchestra (OCYO) is pleased to announce auditions for new prospective members on Thursday, January 28 starting at 6pm, by appointment. Contact Margie at ocyomclark@gmail.com. This is for string and now wind instrument musicians in middle and high school.
Special announcement- Symphoria of Syracuse has just agreed to a Symphoria Day with OCYO on Saturday, May 21 with a full day of master classes and then a performance opening for Symphoria that night in Syracuse. Also the OCYO board has agreed to offer scholarships to all graduating OCYO seniors with 2 or more years in with OCYO.
Concerts: There are generally two regular concerts per season. Other opportunities may be available. Rehearsals: OCYO meets in Sheldon Hall, SUNY Oswego on Thursdays from 7-8:30pm, conducted by the SUNY Oswego Orchestra Director, Dr. Juan La Manna.
Members of OCYO are serious string and wind players who have fun playing quality music with other like-minded musicians. The group has traditionally consisted of primarily high school students with some middle school students included based on ability. Usually the student has performed at level 3 or higher in NYSSMA scoring.
Members have consistently qualified for all-county and all-state level festivals, been concert masters and principal players in their respective school orchestra, and received college scholarships for both academics and music. Some have entered a performance track and some have gone on to become music teachers.
