Write a commentThe Oswego County Breastfeeding Coalition will host the fourth annual `The Big Latch On` Aug. 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Franklin Square Park.
Registration for this event will take place at 10:00 a.m. and “The Big Latch On” will take place promptly at 10:30 a.m. OCBC’s mission is to promote, protect, educate, and empower breastfeeding families in our area. This is a community-building event held every August to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, Aug. 1-8. Groups of breastfeeding women come together at registered locations all around the world to nurse their children simultaneously. Last year, Oswego had nearly 40 moms and nurslings participate in the event; there were over 14,500 participants worldwide. This year, OCBC expects to at least double Oswego’s participation.
Through this event, the OCBC hopes to:
- Raise awareness of breastfeeding support and knowledge existing in our area.
- Make breastfeeding a normal part of life at a local community level.
- Increase support for women who breastfeed.
This is a free community event that will feature a family picnic, fun activities and educational information. OCBC will also be debuting its “Breastfeeding is Normal” art exhibit. This art exhibit will feature every day women in the community breastfeeding their babies and will travel around the county in the months to come.
The primary source of funding for "The Big Latch On" is from our community. There are a number of ways OCBC is seeking support for this event:
- Volunteer at the event. The OCBC is in need of witnesses and volunteers to assist in the set-up, organization, validating the event and break down.
- Provide a monetary donation to help sponsor the event. Sponsor the event with a $100 donation. This will greatly assist in the planning and cost of the event. All donations made to the Oswego County Breastfeeding Coalition will support the event and its advocacy and education efforts in the community. All sponsors will be included in publicity for the event in both social media and printed materials.
- Provide a gift/donation for the event. This can be in the form of a door prize to be raffled off during the event, coupons/samples/or other items to place in swag bags for all participants, food items such as snacks, coffee or water for participants during the event. All donors/sponsors will be mentioned in publicity for the event.
- Be a vendor at the event. For a small fee of $35 you may have a table at the event to feature your business.
- Hang our poster. Show your support of the event by simply hanging a poster and spreading the word.
OCBC welcomes participants to help in its efforts to increase support, provide education and services to breastfeeding mothers and families in our community. Together we can make a difference.
