Oswego County Clerk Terry Wilbur has taken on new roles with the National Association of Counties (NACo).

Earlier this month, NACo President James Gore appointed Wilbur and other local officials in the region to leadership positions within the organization. Wilbur will now serve as vice chair of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Steering Committee, the Membership Standing Committee and the Rural Action Caucus.

New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) President and Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy said that the appointment of New York county leaders to key leadership roles at NACo is a reflection of the exceptional skills, talent and dedication of local officials.

“New York’s county leaders know how to roll up their sleeves and work together to solve problems, and I’m confident that these individuals will bring that skill to NACo to move our counties and our nation forward,” said McCoy.

Wilbur just finished his two-year term as the chair of NACo’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Steering Committee, and also serves as vice chairman on NYSAC’s Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee.

“I’m honored to be appointed to these roles with NACo and look forward to continuing my service to rural counties across America,” said Wilbur. “Agriculture is a mainstay of many economies. My personal experience and time in local government allow me to effectively advocate for the priorities of agriculture and rural America.”

In addition to Wilbur, NACo President Gore appointed Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon as chair of the International Economic Development Task Force and Madison County Supervisor Joseph Pinard (Lenox) as vice chair of the County and Tribal Relations Subcommittee.

“The National Association of Counties plays a key role in advocating for action at the federal level that has a direct impact on county governments and local taxpayers here in New York State,” said NYSAC Executive Director Stephen Acquario. “It’s critical that we have strong representation in our nation’s capital, and I know that these leaders will be effective voices on behalf of New York’s 62 counties.”

NACo works to strengthen counties across America, serving nearly 40,000 county elected officials and 3.6 million county employees. The organization helps counties by advocating for them in federal policymaking, promoting exceptional policies and practices of counties, enhancing public understanding of county government, optimizing county and taxpayer resources, and more.

Founded in 1925, NYSAC is an affiliate of NACo and works closely with the organization to advance priorities of New York’s counties at the state and federal level.
