Sara Sunday, Aging Services administrator, experienced the home delivered meal program first hand recently as she participated in Oswego County Opportunities’ March for Meals Annual Campaign.
As part of National March for Meals week Sunday joined other elected officials and community members to serve as volunteer delivery persons.
OCO Nutrition Services’ participation in National March for Meals week helps to raise awareness of senior hunger and the benefits of the Home Delivered Meals program. In addition to delivering meals, volunteers and staff serve meals at the Nutrition Services Senior Dining lunch sites throughout Oswego County.
“Being a volunteer with the Home Delivered Meals program is a great opportunity to work with OCO Nutrition Services and meet the people we are serving,” said Sunday. “It’s important to have daily contact, let participants know they are not alone, and inform them about other services they may benefit from. The mission of the Oswego County Office for the Aging is to assist older residents to remain in the community at the highest level of independence for as long as possible, in safety and with dignity. One way we do that is by working with OCO to provide the Home Delivered Meals program.”
The home delivered meals program delivers more than 1,000 meals each day. With eight paid driver routes and 16 volunteer routes, the program provides nutritious meals to homebound seniors in every area of Oswego County.
