More than 170 firefighters were in attendance Sunday at the first ever Port City Fire Conference, held at the Marano Campus Center at SUNY Oswego.

The day-long seminar was led by Nick Martin of Combat Ready Fire Training, and was hosted by the Oswego Fire Department, led by Chief Paul Conzone.

"The training is called Aggressive Command Supports Aggressive Firefighting," said Chief Conzone. It's designed to help fire commanders and company officers learn to avoid impractical command practices and make better decisions in the difficult situations we encounter."

Conzone said that firefighters from all over the Northeast were in town for the event. "We've had really great support from the Mayor and the Common Council, and from the college and the community," Chief Conzone said. "This is our first time hosting something on this scale, but we'd like to make it an annual event."

Chief Conzone said that as part of Combat Ready's package, the Oswego Fire Department's personnel will also receive an additional full day of scenario-based training from Martin on Monday at the East Side Station.
