Oswego Kartway management officially released their 2013 schedule featuring an aggressive plan of 20 events beginning in late April and running straight through the month of September.
The Kartway, now in its eighth year of operation and located directly behind Oswego Speedway, will be holding kart racing events nearly every Friday beginning April 26. Over the years, the Kartway has become a proven testing ground for young drivers looking to make the move to the fast 5/8 mile 'Steel Palace.'
No fewer than eight drivers have made the move from the Kartway to the Speedway including current Pathfinder Bank SBS series pilots Josh Kerr, Dalton Doyle, David LaTulip, AJ Bernys and Anthony Losurdo.
Current and former Speedway competitors also use the Kartway to remain sharp. Tim Gareau, Dave Cliff Jr. and Chris Natoli are quite often found on the Kartway's racing surface.
"We are very proud of what the Oswego Kartway has become," Oswego Speedway co-owner, John Torrese said. "It is a fast, tight race track which has become a tremendous feeder system for our Saturday night divisions at Oswego Speedway. It offers a means for not only our local young community, but also adults of all ages, to come out have fun and race on the grounds of the Speedway. The racing at the Kartway is no doubt entertaining and it serves as a perfect way to spend a Friday night and kick-off a full weekend of racing."
The Kartway is not only racer-friendly, but fan-friendly as well. Bleacher seating and track side vehicle parking is available for fans in attendance to enjoy the racing action for only $5 per car load admission. Full service concession stands and restroom facilities are available, as well as access to the rear grandstand of the Speedway to watch any Supermodified or SBS racers that may be track testing during 'Fast Friday' sessions.
The 2013 schedule of events at the Kartway begins with an open test session on Saturday, April 20, and returns with a pre-season race on Friday, April 26.
The 14-race track championship trail at the tight clay oval officially begins Friday, May 3 with the running of the 'Kartway Kick-Off.' The track will run seven consecutive Friday nights to start the season including an extra lap Memorial Day Weekend special on May 24 and the popular 'King of the Kartway' event on June 14.
The Kartway will take its first of two weekends off on June 21 in honor of graduation weekend in Oswego before running a stretch of three weeks in a row featuring the 'Grand Prix Night' special July 5.
Once again, the Kartway will be silent on July 19 in honor of SUNOCO Race of Champions Weekend at the Speedway.
The championship stretch at the Kartway will culminate with another five straight weeks of racing, but only four of those will be point events. The annual 'Battle at the Bull Ring' will be run on Aug. 2 as a non-point event and will be run in the same form as the Kartway Classic with time trials and B-Mains to set the field. As always, 'Battle at the Bull Ring' feature winners will be guaranteed starters for the Kartway Classic later in August.
The final night of the 14-race track championship season at the Kartway will be Aug. 23 as a part of Champion's Night. On that evening, track champions will be crowned in all divisions.
The Kartway Classic will immediately follow Champion's Night for its seventh running on Thursday, Aug. 29, as a part of International Classic Week at the Speedway. This event, which yearly pulls in more than 100 entries, has become a Classic Weekend fan favorite and serves as a perfect way to kick start the racing action at the Speedway.
New to the Kartway in 2013 will be the 'Fall Frenzy' series beginning Friday, Sept. 6. The series will run on three consecutive Friday nights, separate from the track championship standings and will declare fall champions in all participating divisions. The always popular 'Queen of the Kartway' will again take place Sept. 20.
Work is currently under way to continue the Driver Rewards Program started at the Kartway in 2012, which allowed driver's attending every weekly point show last season a chance to win a brand new 2013 PRC Triton kart courtesy of Oswego Kartway.
