On Saturday, Sept. 13 I was honored to be a part of Oswego's first Light Up the Night 5k Run/Walk which was organized by ARISE.
The event's goal is to raise awareness for those with disabilities in the county and to inform residents of the services ARISE provides to those with disabilities.
As I reported to Franklin Square, more commonly known as West park, I saw many bright shirts, shoes, and glow sticks preparing for the run and walk. I enjoyed seeing the smiles on the faces of each person there, and it was a wonderful opportunity to be involved with the community.
For ARISE'S first Light Up the Night event, there was a great turnout of approximately 70 people, and from here on out the turnout will only grow in size as more people hear about what a splendid time it was. Although it was rainy and cold all day, each and every person braved the weather in order to help raise awareness as well as get in a great exercise, and I cannot wait until next year.
