One of the official signs of summer in Oswego is the Independence Celebration, which will be held at 1 p.m, Sunday, July 7, beginning with the 50th Anniversary Annual Independence Parade. The theme for this very special event is "Fifty Years of Family, Fun and Fireworks!"

The annual celebration began in 1963 and was originally organized by the Jaycees, a local service organization in the community at the time. The Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce's Parade Committee is interested in locating members of the Jaycees and Jayncees who worked on organizing the past parades to march in this year's event as Grand Marshalls. If you or someone you know was involved with organizing the parade in the past and would like to serve as a Grand Marshall for the 50th Anniversary, please contact the Chamber at 315-343-7681 or email events@oswegofultonchamber.com

Applications to for individuals, groups and organizations interested in participating in the 2013 parade are available at the Chamber office 44 E. Bridge St., Oswego and online at www.oswegofultonchamber.com.

For more information about the Independence Celebration, please contact the Chamber at 343-7681.
