Born in N. Bangor, New York, November 15, 1924. He was the son of Patrick Henry McCarthy and Grace Mary Labelle.
Pat, known in Malone as Henry, spent his first ten years in Oakland, California, then on the family farm on the Farm- to- Market Road in North Bangor. He graduated from Franklin Academy and the Adirondack Commercial School, both of Malone, NY. During WWII he was a member of a B-25J medium bomber crew serving on Ascension Island in the South Atlantic on anti-submarine and air rescue duty. He resided in Oswego, NY from 1946 to 1967, operating McCarthy's Grocery at the corner of East Seventh and Seneca streets. The neighborhood store served families as well as children who played in Fort Ontario's ball fields. Many former kids still fondly remember the penny candy counter. Pat and Marge enjoyed conversing with their customers.
In 1967 Patrick and Margaret moved to Scriba, NY after purchasing the Oswego Western Auto Franchise. Their store opened in the then- new Oswego Plaza in 1966 but later moved to 3 George Street in 1976 after the couple constructed their own building. They retired from the business in 1990. Patrick served on the parish council of St. Louis Roman Catholic Church until its closing in 2000. He then became a member of Scriba's Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.
