Paul D. Vibbert, 68, a resident of East Bridge Street, in Oswego, passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at the Oswego Hospital.
Mr. Vibbert was born in Syracuse, a son of the late Lyman and Mae (Greenwood) Vibbert.
He grew up in the Syracuse area and had lived in the Oswego area for many years. He was employed as a bus driver for CENTRO and had formerly worked for the Alcan Aluminum Corp. At one time, he had been an officer with the Oswego City Police Department, where he was known by many Oswego residents as Officer Friendly.
Mr. Vibbert was a member of the Star Society Motorcycle Club and was well known in the community for playing Santa Claus during the Christmas season.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Harman) Vibbert, of Oswego; five daughters, Marie Jones, of Alabama, Marcia Trimpey, of Virginia, Kristy Watson, of Red Creek, Karen Glennen and Brittany Vibbert, both of Oswego; two stepchildren, Rob McCarthy, of Oswego, and Lisa Williams, of Fulton; a brother, Stephen Vibbert, of Scriba; 15 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one niece; and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home,
Calling hours will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, prior to the service, at the funeral home, 112 E. Second St.
