Police Dog Visits New Vision Program

Officer R. Wallace, of the Oswego City Police Department, recently visited the New Vision program at the Center for Instruction, Technology & Innovation, accompanied by his K-9, Storm.

Storm is 2.5 years old and is a K-9 with the Oswego City Police Department. She is an explosion protection dog and also does building searches and aids with apprehension. The experience provides a look into different aspects of a career in law enforcement for students.

Wallace is looking to obtain a vest for Storm so she is adequately protected when completing her duties.

"She's my partner, and we have to send her into potentially dangerous situations. I want to get her outfitted with a ballistic and stab-proof vest, just like any other police officer," said Wallace.

Storm was born in the Netherlands and picked up by animal control. She was then bought for sport and was imported to Arkansas. She was picked up by Wallace and the police from there. Wallace says that she loves toys and food and is excellent at her job. She has already been successful in two missions.

"I am looking to raise $3,000 dollars for the vest. Through my link with Spike's K-9 fund, I can be sent a vest immediately if I am able to raise that amount. I want to make sure that she is just as safe as I am when we are working on the same job," said Wallace.
