Five years ago the unthinkable happened when terrorists planted explosives at the Boston Marathon killing three and injuring over 250 innocent people.

To protect the 45,000 runners and 1.7 million spectators at this past year’s Chicago Marathon, Emergency Management professionals from the City of Oswego and those from Houston were asked to assist Chicago in planning and response.

On Thursday, March 7, 2019, Oswego Fire Department Deputy Chief Justin Norfleet will be sharing insights from the event with local public safety officials, first responders, and emergency management professionals.

Oswego Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Randy Griffin said “that this experience is invaluable for the planning of events, like Harborfest and Super Dirt Week, here in Oswego.” “Experience at this scale would be impossible to attempt to re-create in simulation or in training.” The session begins at 1:00PM at Fire Headquarters and is open to the press. Parking is available at 36 East Seneca Street in Oswego.
