Write a commentUPDATED: The victim has been tentatively identified as Jomuel Rodriguez Fuentes (14 yr old) from Oswego.
Jomuel is presumed deceased, his body has not been recovered. Search and recovery efforts will continue in and around the Oswego River, harbor and associated shoreline. This is a large search area and our efforts are hampered by multiple environmental factors. The police department clinician and Oswego City School District representatives have been working with the family to assist them through this difficult time.

At approximately 12:10am, the Oswego Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a report of a male that had jumped off the Utica Street Bridge into the Oswego River.
Patrol units responded and were on scene within a minute. The male was observed in the water along the center rock wall just north of the Bridge Street Bridge. Officers were able to throw a life ring and rope to him which he was able to grasp. After a short period of time and before the fire department rescue boat reached him, the male was pulled under by the fast-moving current. Drones were immediately deployed and utilized to search the area. Further searches of the area were conducted by Onondaga County Air 1, Oswego County Sheriff’s Department Marine Unit, Minetto Fire Department Marine Unit and the U.S. Coast Guard. Search and recovery efforts will continue throughout the day.
As of 4:00am there have been no local reports of a missing person and the male seen jumping into the river is unidentified. The male was described by witnesses as an early twenties, light complexion African American or Hispanic wearing black clothing.
