Ralph J. Jennings, 78 of Oswego passed away Thursday morning at St. Luke Health Services, Inc.
He was born in Syracuse and was the son of the late Francis Vincent Jennings and Gladys Pluff Jennings Benz. Mr. Jennings was the husband of Beverly J. Legates Jones. He served in the US Marine Corp from 1956-1958 and was Honorable Discharge at Quantico, VA.
Mr. Jennings was a Certified Real Estate Appraiser, a Licensed Real Estate Broker and founded the Land and Trust Realty Company in 1980. He was a well know real estate developer in Oswego County. He was the former owner of Mexico Sports Center.
In 1996 he was appointed to the NYS Canal Commission by Gov. George Pataki.
Always active in the community, he had served on numerous organizations boards including President of the Oswego County Antique Car Club, Vice President of Oswego County Planning Board and Oswego County Board of Realtors, Operation Oswego County, Mexico’s Fire Department, Planning Board and Zoning Board, Mexico-Pulaski Community Health Services, National Society of Real Estate Appraisers, Oswego YMCA, Century Member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Port of Oswego Authority.
His hobbies included Judo, Boxing, Antique Autos, Skiing, Snowmobiling, Racquetball, Skin Diving, Motorcycling, Boating and his Grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters Susan (Renee) Jennings, Debra (Paul) Heagerty both of Oswego, one stepdaughter Patricia Jones of Lock Haven, PA, two stepsons Dr. Frank (Audrey) Jones of New Orleans, LA, Christopher (Cimberly) Jones of Oswego, one brother Raymond (Debbie) Benz of Syracuse, 14 grandchildren, 2.5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 4-7PM Monday at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home with a service to follow at 7PM. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
