Maple Lovers From All Over the County Came to Get Their Fill of Fresh Maple Syrup and Other Maple Products.
Its that time of year again! Each spring, members of the New York State Maple Producers Association invite families and friends to their sugar houses to share the process of making maple syrup Red Schoolhouse Maple hosted their 8th annual Maple Weekend celebration March 18 and 19, and this past weekend March 25th and 26th.
Making maple syrup for 7 years and counting, Red Schoolhouse Maple helped visitors learn all about the production of maple syrup and syrup made products. Tours were given showing their very own sugar bush, and the system they use to bring the syrup into the sugarhouse. Not only is the weekend to learn3 about the maple syrup process, but there were also fun-filled activities for everyone.
Each year a maple farm is chosen to kick off Maple Weekend and cut the ribbon, and perform the official tree tapping ceremony, to begin the festivities. Out of all of the sugarhouses in the central NY area, Red Schoolhouse Maple was chosen for this honor. At the Tree Tapping, we had NYS Assemblyman Will Barclay, Oswego County Legislator Dan LeClair, Jennifer Blanchard, Paul A. Forestiere II, 2nd Ward Councilman/ Council President David Ritchie, 3rd Ward Councilman Don Patrick Jr., and 6th Ward Councilman Larry Macner, who has been named City of Fulton's Veteran of the Year for 2017. The actual tapping was performed by Assemblyman Will Barclay, Paul A. Forestiere II and Oswego County Legislator Dan LeClair.
There was a record breaking amount of people at the all-you-can-eat Pancake breakfast that took place each morning from 8 A.M. to 12 noon.
Each day, Schoolhouse Maple gave out free samples of their pure maple syrup, along with store bought syrup. Visitors were offered to try both for a taste test. The majority of guests elected the homemade pure maple syrup made by Red Schoolhouse Maple to be tastier.
There were also two cook-offs over the two weekends, the “Taste of Maple” original, maple syrup, based foods contest. Restaurants and bakeries from all over Oswego and Fulton, NY were invited to create a pure maple syrup or maple sugar product to enter in the contest.
We would like to thank all of the contestants, and the winners from both weekends. On our first weekend of March 18th and 19th, Kathy’s Cakes and Specialty Treats won with their maple cream puffs, and on the second weekend of the 25th and 26th, Joselin Farms won with their Maple cupcake with Maple Cream Cheese frosting & mini pancakes.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to everyone else who supported Red Schoolhouse Maple came to the event.
