Richard T. Galvin, 79 of Rochester passed away Sunday, February 16 at Rochester General Hospital.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Thomas and Jane (Fitzgerald) Galvin.

He graduated from Oswego Catholic High School in 1963 and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from SUNY Oswego.

Dick was a school guidance counselor in both the West Irondequoit and Wayne Central school districts where he positively impacted the lives of countless youth. 

An avid golfer, Dick joined the Ontario Golf Club in 1983. He also served as a rules official for the NYS Golf Association beginning in 2005, and was President from 2014-15. A patron of the arts, he was a season ticket holder of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Geva Theatre, and the Rochester Broadway Theatre League (RBTL). He was an RBTL volunteer for 18 years, most recently serving as House Manager. A sports enthusiast, he was a fan of SU football, basketball, and lacrosse, as well as the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. An accomplished musician and proud Irishman, he played guitar and sang in a quartet from the late ‘70s to the early ‘90s, specializing in Irish Folk.

Richard is survived by his sister Katherine (Richard) Merritt and his brother Patrick (Angela) Galvin both of Oswego. He is also survived by niece Rebecca Corrice, nephews Richard Merritt, Jr., Mitchell Galvin, and Jeremy (Morgan) Galvin, great nephew Tyler Corrice, and great nieces Megan Corrice and Eloise Galvin.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Mary Galvin.

Funeral services will be 10AM Monday in Christ The Good Shepherd Church.

Calling hours Sunday 1-4PM at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.

Private burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
