This Fourth of July weekend coming up marks the opening of the Oswego Players 75th anniversary summer musical production of "Mame." Directors Inez Manor Parker and Abel Searor are pleased to have Rita Worlock, an award-nominated Syracuse actress, playing the choice role of Agnes Gooch.

Worlock said she is very excited about this, as it is one of her favorite roles from the past. She is a three-time SALT Award nominee and most recently won the 2013 SALT People's Choice Award for Actress of the Year. Her credits include more than 50 theatrical productions, solo performances with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra (SSO) and SSO Pops Chorus, the Syracuse Chorale, the Syracuse Chamber Singers and the second season of Dancing With the Stars in Syracuse.
In the summer of 2011, Worlock taught vocal instruction and vocal performance, along with other area rock professionals at the Inaugural Redhouse "Rock Camp" in Syracuse. She can be seen performing in the Prince MTV/VH-1 video, "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World." Worlock is a 2012 graduate of SUNY Empire College and is currently a graduate student at the prestigious David B. Falk School of Sport and Human Dynamics at Syracuse University and pursuing an MSW/CAS in social work, addiction and trauma.
"This is one very talented and busy lady indeed," Parker said. "The Players are delighted she has taken time from her schedule to perform in this extravaganza."
The show is scheduled for 8 p.m. production July 5, 6, 12 and 13; and a 2 p.m. July 14 matinee. Ticket price is $15 across the board.
Parker explained musicals, especially period musicals, are very expensive to produce. Without the assistance of supporters, the ticket prices would be out of reach for most local patrons. Pathfinder Bank has generously provided support toward the Oswego Players special anniversary season. This, along with a grant from the Central New York Arts, has helped enormously to keep ticket prices reasonable. "The Oswego Players salute both these contributors," she said.
