Wood turner Dick Gorman is being featured as Artist of the Month for November at the Riverside Artisans Cooperative. His turned wooden bowls, vases, key fobs and pens are popular items in the downtown Oswego shop.
Dick began turning wood after reading an article on “getting into wood turning for less than $600.” So, he bought a mini-lathe and joined a club. Since then he has expanded his investment in his equipment and his range of work greatly.
Dick is an Oswego native who now lives in Sterling. He retired from Novelis after a long career in Information systems. He enjoys passing on what he has learned to other wood turners and is a active member of the Central New York Wood Turners Club
To honor Dick as December’s Artist of the Month, Riverside Artisans is holding a free raffle of his work. The winner will receive a hand-turned walnut bowl. Just stop by the shop at 191 W. 1st St. in the Canal Commons in downtown Oswego to fill out a raffle ticket to register for the drawing at the end of the month. No purchase is necessary.
The winner will be notified at the end of December.
