ROC Selects Lois Terminella as May Community Champion

Recognizing Oswego County has selected Lois Terminella as the Community Champion for May. The theme for the month was `Summer Events`.

"As we move into summer, we want to highlight the great things there are to do around the county. One of those things is Camp Hollis", said Penny Morely, ROC member.

During the school year, Lois works for SUNY Oswego's Auxiliary Services, but during the summer you will find her at Camp Hollis. In fact, this will be Lois's 33rd year managing the kitchen at the camp. Years ago, Lois took classes to become a nurse, but eventually found her way into food service. In a way, she finds the jobs similar in that they both involve caring for people.

Lois loves working at Camp Hollis because she enjoys the kids. Lois said, "I like to feed them well-balanced meals. The kids are so grateful and often tell me they don't get good food like that at home". Feeding them, talking to them and teaching them is her way of trying to make a difference in the kids' lives. ROC member Heidi Webb observed Lois' lasting impression in her own children who have camped at Camp Hollis. "When they came home from camp, the person they talked about most is Lois", Webb said.

ROC would also like to thank Nate Emmons from the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce (http://oswegofultonchamber.com/) for sharing the many upcoming summer events that are scheduled around the county and Jane Wagoner from the Oswego City School District (http://www.oswego.org/) for providing information about free meals that will be offered over the summer break.

Next month's theme is "Community Development/Revitalization".  If you know an agency or community member who makes an impact in the Oswego County community in this area, please send in a nomination through the "Recognizing Oswego County - ROC" Facebook page, or contact bmorey@oswegocounty.com. Nominations are due June 9, 2014.

Members of ROC will meet again Thursday, June 12th at 8-9:15am at the Oswego Federal Credit Union at 90 E. Bridge Street in Oswego. New members are always welcome.
