Rodney R. Woolson, Sr., a passionate hunter, trapper and skilled taxidermist, passed away on March 9th, 2025 at home surrounded his family, at the age of 76.
In 1968, his senior year at Mexico High School he joined the ARMY Reserves. Rodney then worked for Cambridge Filter Corporation in Syracuse while maintaining his role as a reservist. He then joined the Laborer’s Local 214 in 1971 and was a member for over 50 years. Rodney’s passion for coin collecting started when he was a young boy and he continued throughout his life. Rodney loved to sit on his back porch reading books on many topics; he was most passionate about the history of the United States before the 1950’s. Rodney loved taking a “drive around the block” everyday where he grew up; to make sure nothing had changed. Rodney lived on the same road for 76 years, where he will be missed dearly.
With a lifelong love for the outdoors, Rodney spent countless hours in the woods, pursuing his passion for hunting. His deep respect for nature was evident not only in his pursuits but also in his expert work as a taxidermist, where he meticulously preserved the beauty of the animals he admired. Known for his attention to detail and artistry, Rodney became a trusted professional whose work will live on as a testament to his talent and dedication.
Rodney is survived by his wife of nearly twenty years, Laurie, children, Rodney (Stephanie) Woolson, Raymond (Jessica) Woolson, and Susan Woolson, a stepson Joshua (Tonya) Jones and grandchildren Amber, Brian (Juliana), Joshua, Timothy, Aidan and Micah as well as four adorable great granddaughters Brooklyn, Amelia, Madilyn, and Violet.
He was preceded in death by his father Stanley, mother Jennie, brothers Wayne and Donnie, and his previous wife Carol.
A celebration of Rodney’s life will be held on May 4, 2025 at Scriba Baptist Church at 11am, where he and Laurie were members. A burial will follow at North Scriba Cemetery. Though he is no longer with us, Rodney’s legacy will live on in the stories we share, and the animals he preserved. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Rodney. Your work here is done.
