Write a commentJulie Chetney, Director of Senior Services at Bishop’s and St. Francis’ Commons at St. Luke, was the guest speaker at a recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Oswego held at Bishop’s Commons.
Chetney has worked at St. Luke Health Services for 29 years and at Bishop’s Commons since it opened in March 2000. Since then, the facility has been home for 789 residents, including at least four members of Chetney’s own family. Most residents come from Oswego County. About 500 people have been employed there over the past 25 years.
Both St. Luke Health Service facilities provide assisted living as needed by the residents. They are not nursing homes. Their residents continue to be as active in the community and to maintain their former contacts as they choose. Services to residents are essentially the same at both facilities with only a few differences. Pets may live at Bishop’s Commons but only visit at St. Francis. The interior floor plans offer only apartments at Bishop’s Commons and private rooms at St. Francis. Different funding options may be unique to St. Francis, such as Community Medicaid. Bishop’s Commons residents bring their own furnishings; St. Francis rooms are furnished.
Services that are common to both facilities include three meals daily, staff on duty 24/7, 24 hour call buttons, transportation within Oswego County, management of medications as needed, personal care, e.g. dressing, grooming, bathing, as needed, cable TV, and a host of exercise and recreational activities. Both facilities have received excellent ratings and comments.
