Write a commentThe Rural Health Network of Oswego County with support from HealtheConnections has announced that it will be awarding six $1,000 mini-grants to businesses or organizations interested in establishing or expanding worksite wellness initiatives.
The mini-grants are intended to support worksite wellness activities implemented by Oswego County employers, with a priority being given to smoking cessation, diabetes prevention, or chronic disease prevention.
The impetus for the worksite wellness mini-grants came in reaction to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation County Health Rankings that indicate Oswego County ranks high in obesity rates among adults and children as well as smoking, alcohol use, drug abuse and other health indicators.
“While Oswego County has made some progress, we realize that in many areas the county continues to struggle in health behaviors,” said Rural Health Network Coordinator Brian Coleman. “Having a healthy workforce benefits the community from both an economic and productivity standpoint. Studies have shown that healthy employees have a more positive attitude and are more productive.”
Applications and complete information on the mini-grants are available on the Rural Health Network website, www.rhnoc.org. Projects should be one year in duration with updates at six months and one year. For-profit, non-profit, private, public, and government organizations are eligible to apply. All applications must be completed and returned no later than May 1.
“We’re happy to have the opportunity to offer these worksite wellness mini-grants,” added Coleman. “By helping employers to support the health and well-being of their employees we feel that we can have a positive impact on the health of our community.”
