Salmon River Whitewater Release Cancelled for June 23 – 24

The Salmon River recreational whitewater release scheduled for June 23 and 24 has been cancelled because the recent lack of rain has created insufficient water level on the Salmon River Reservoir for the release.

Under the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) project license for the Salmon River, the reservoir elevation must be a minimum of 933.92 feet. As of Tuesday morning, June 19, the reservoir elevation measured 933.75 feet.

The decision to cancel the whitewater release was made by the Salmon River Flow Management Executive Committee after consultation with Brookfield Renewable.

Under the protocols developed for cancelling an event, lack of rain and no appreciable rain in the forecast has resulted in the reservoir elevation not being sufficient to recover by this weekend’s event. As per the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Salmon River Project License, base flows and power production take precedence over recreational whitewater releases.

The next recreational release on the Salmon River is scheduled for July 7 and 8. For additional information visit http://www.h2oline.com/default.aspx?pg=si&op=365123.
