From September 22nd through 24th, Syracuse, New York, held its Second Annual Syracuse Comic-Con, a three-day event. The Syracuse Comic-Con event was held at the SRC Arena and Events Center.
Syracuse NY Comic Con is in its second year and is the first 3-day pop-culture, comics, and gaming convention ever in CNY. The event saw huge cosplay contests, gaming tournaments, comics, artists and special guests. It's a celebration for whatever you geek out about, whether it's superheroes, anime/manga, horror, video games, toys, comics, etc, lots of fun for all ages!
Some of the main standouts were Carey Means, who is the voice of the highly-popular show Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. Aqua Teen Hunger Force is currently the longest-running original series in Adult Swim history.
"I was here one-day last year, this year would make it my first annual, stated Means. Means had some fun while being interviewed and went into Frylock's voice, "This is Frylock coming to you from The Syracuse Comic-Con, at my table, toble, whatever, sitting next to Jem from Jem & The Holograms on one side and The Dino-Thunder Powerrangers on the other." Carey Means also stated, "I have had a freaking ball and Syracuse will never be the same, cuz Frylock in the house YEAH!" Carey Means admitted he would love to come back to The Syracuse Comic-Con and would go on to let on what is next for him, "Watch Welcome To The Wayne on Nickelodeon, look for it on your local listings, we're going from the adult pool to the kiddie pool but we still swimming!" Welcome To The Wayne will feature many voices from Aqua Teen Hunger Force including Frylock himself by Carey Means.
Along with voice actors from Gem & The Holograms, Sonic The Hedgehog and Carey Means from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, there were many comic books artists including Charles Bartlett III, who is originally from Manulis, NY, and has worked for both Marvel and DC.
When asked how he felt about this years Syracuse Comic-Con, Bartlett stated, "It's definitely bigger than last year, there are people with wings and horns, there are people like us just doing artwork, there's a guy over there who is Optimus Prime," stated Bartlett. When asked what the most memorable part of Comic-Con was for him so far he joked and said: "I can't say right?" As he pointed to my girlfriend and I said he could he said: Your girlfriend."
In years past, Bartlett has drawn for Marvel, DC, Tekno Comics, Elf Quest, and more," he stated. Bartlett admitted his favorite Marvel Character is Captain America and was able to work on a few Captain America comic books. "Captain America is my favorite character. I did a big 38-page story for Captain America, and the only downside was it was wrapped and polybagged and nobody wanted to open it because of its collectibility factor. So the best story I've ever done up to that point nobody had read," said Bartlett. He also admitted that at shows like these, people still come up to him with that Captain America issue still polybagged and want him to sign it. Bartlett said that he would love to come back to The Syracuse Comic-Con. "It's a fun show and it's my hometown."
Along with celebrities, there were many local shops as well including Joe Shock of Shock It Arts out of Cicero, New York. Shock It Arts is an art company that does custom painting on shoes, hats, print their own shirts, shaker bottles for lifters, they even have hand-painted saw blades! This was not Shock It Arts first time at Syracuse Comic-Cons Joe stated, "Hot Rod shows, Nationals, Comic-Cons, Hercules Gym for power-lifting events and Street Scene." Everything is all hand done, in-house including printing his own shirts. When asked if he does any custom work Bartlett replied, "Check out Shock It Arts on Facebook and if you have anything you're interested in shoot me a message and we can work it from there." Bartlett will continue to attend The Syracuse Comic-Con.
