Sheila M. Whitely, 68, a resident of Oswego, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at the Oswego Hospital.
Born in Potsdam, she was a daughter of the late James and Ida (Supernault) Barney and had attended Oswego schools.
She was employed with the Oswego Candy Works and General Electric in Syracuse before moving to Texas. She returned to the Oswego area in June 1984.
Sheila was one of the most avid Dallas Cowboys fans ever. She enjoyed her trivia games, researching her family history; and while she loved watching all birds, she was especially well known for her love of hummingbirds and happily shared her knowledge with everyone.
Surviving are her son, John (DeeDee Jorski) Whitely, of Pulaski; a daughter, Shannon (Robert) Otts, of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Sharon Dowie, of Oswego; three brothers, Allen Barney, of Madrid NY, Donald Barney, of Oswego, and Wayne Barney, of Merkel, Texas; two grandchildren, Faith Whitely and Emily Whitely, of Oswego; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Lyle, Stuart, Erwin, James and Truman Barney; and four sisters, June Wilson, Barbara Scruton, Wanda Pearson and Naomi Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 11, from the Dowdle Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home, 154 E. Fourth St., Oswego.
