Another fascinating Oswego Rotary program, Tom Deuson, Watertown Rotary Club member presented a program about Shelter Box. You ask, what is Shelter Box ? Shelter Box, created by a Rotarian, is the largest Rotary project in the 100+ year history of the organization. It's a survival kit in a box that will enable a family that has lost everything to subsist for up to one year with a roof overhead, warmth and protection, drinkable water, a simple kitchen with heat from cooking and essential tools to begin restoring their lives. The concept was developed in 2000 and began in the United States in 2002 by the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch, FL. Since then, the USA affiliate has received support from 1000s of Rotary clubs in the U.S. Shelter boxes have been sent to Haiti, Syria, Philippines and northern California to name a few of the many, many locations.
