Residents at Bishop's Commons have been "Exploring Art" with SUNY Students for two semesters and have just opened an art exhibit to display their work.

The exhibit runs through April 19 and is open to families, friends, and members of the community.
The SUNY / Senior "Exploring Art" program began in September of 2012 with the help of SUNY Oswego student Julia Baldovin. Baldovin spent two three-hour sessions a week last semester in the newly formed art studio, offering direction, expertise and support to anyone interested. Since then, the SUNY/Senior "Exploring Art" has grown in interest.
Under the direction of SUNY art student Caitlyn Roberts, this semester has brought new mediums that include drawing, charcoal work and water coloring. The artwork on display for the exhibit has many wondering about the hidden talents that lie within the seniors who live at the Enriched Living Residence.
Bishops commons art "It has been a new experience for our residents who are looking to learn, explore their talents, or even for those who simply want to relax in a calm, friendly, and creative environment," explained activities assistant Cheryl Cullinan.
"The relationship with the SUNY Oswego Art Department has given our residents an opportunity that they might not otherwise have ever had," noted senior living Coordinator, Julie Chetney. "The students bring enthusiasm, interest, and talent to our folks, who in turn become excited about trying something new."
The Art Exhibit is on display until Friday, April 19 and the community is invited to stop by Bishop's Commons any time before 7 p.m. to view the artwork. A silent auction is also on display for 6x6 submitted pieces. Proceeds go to the SUNY/Senior Art Club at Bishop's Commons. When coming to Bishop's Commons, stop at the reception desk and ask for a guided art tour. Residents are available from 1-7 p.m.
