Governor Andrew M. Cuomo recently announced that more than $23.6 million has been awarded to six housing developments in Central New York that will create 286 affordable homes.
The funding is part of more than $200 million the state is awarding to build or preserve more than 2,800 affordable apartments across New York's 10 regions, revitalize communities, and generate $1.1 billion in economic activity.
"This investment is a significant milestone in New York's $20 billion housing and homelessness plan, and a giant step forward in our efforts to increase access to homes for families, seniors and our most vulnerable men and women across the state," Governor Cuomo said. "These resources will help the region build affordable, stronger, better neighborhoods for our residents for generations to come."
The funds were available through New York State Homes & Community Renewal's 2017 Unified Funding Application, a streamlined process to apply for Low Income Housing Tax Credits and low-interest loans for affordable, multifamily developments. Projects are funded in every region of the state.
The awards announced today for Oswego County will:
Revitalize Oswego Harbor
$10.9 Million for Harbor View Square, Oswego. The development complements Governor Cuomo's Downtown Revitalization Initiative by creating a four-building, 66-unit mixed-income development with 10,000 square feet of commercial/retail space in the heart of Downtown Oswego, where the Oswego River meets Lake Ontario. The development is central to the Oswego Harbor Revitalization Initiative and will include a mix of affordable and market-rate households.
This project is receiving assistance from the Oswego County IDA and the Oswego Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI).
Fight Homelessness with Supportive Housing in Scriba, Oswego County
$1.6 Million for Champlain Commons. The newly constructed 56-unit affordable workforce housing development for low income New Yorkers will include 17 apartments for homeless individuals who will receive services and support through Governor Cuomo's Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative.
This project is being assisted by the Oswego County IDA.
