'Affordability' has proven to be nothing more than lip service from Assembly Democrats' $263.5 billion budget proposal—$11.5 billion more than Gov. Hochul's record-spending proposal.
Not unexpectedly, they're at it again, steering New York straight into financial chaos while completely ignoring the need to end New York's annual, reckless spending sprees.
Inclusive of this proposal, in just five years, New York's budget will balloon by a staggering $86 billion—an unsustainable path our conference has long warned against. Future budget deficits are already a major concern, and this proposal would only exacerbate that.
New York collects some of the highest taxes in the nation, but this proposal includes tax hikes on the businesses we depend on to drive our economy. These tax increases will only accelerate the outmigration crisis, driving businesses and jobs out of the state.
I'm glad to see the governor and the Assembly Majority finally embracing measures our conference has supported for years, including middle-class tax cuts, child care affordability and investing in SUNY Upstate, however, runaway spending on this scale is a dangerous gamble. If not corrected before the final state budget, New York's financial future will be at risk for generations to come."
