Students and Families Come Together at Team Fitzhugh Ice Cream Social

The Fitzhugh Park Elementary School community recently came together for an ice cream and rock painting social to celebrate summer and reconnect, while having some fun in anticipation of the upcoming school year.

Over 200 participated in this event, which mixed delicious ice cream sundaes with some rock art while reinforcing the school-wide Leader In Me initiative.

Principal Donna Simmons read a story Only One You, by Linda Kranz to all the families gathered. The story inspires children to have confidence to be themselves as they “explore the world and swim through life,” reflecting the school’s Leader In Me initiative. After Principal Simmons read the story, students and families were invited to participate in rock painting inspired by the story.

The Leader in Me school-wide initiative is set to begin its second year with many activities planned that will continue to bring the school community together in an enjoyable and educational manner. The Leader In Me school-wide initiative is made possible at Fitzhugh Park Elementary School by the generous support of the Richard S. Shineman Foundation. Special thank you to Paul's Big M for the ice cream.
