New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) continues its centennial celebration with its annual photo contest highlighting county government service.

This year’s theme is “Beyond 100: The Future of New York’s Counties!”

“April is National County Government Month, and this photo contest is the perfect opportunity to showcase the important role county government plays in communities,” said Oswego County Administrator and NYSAC President-Elect Philip Church. “The services Oswego County departments provide impact the daily lives of all our residents. We encourage anyone with photos highlighting what makes our county great to enter them in the contest for a chance to be featured in NYSAC’s publications.”

Photographers are invited to submit images in the following categories:

  • Innovation and Infrastructure – Counties embracing technology, new public transit solutions, 911 call centers, EMS and emergency response, innovative government services, new bridges and roads, broadband expansion and public works projects.
  • Sustainability and Green Initiatives – Sustainability initiatives, EV charging stations, parks and green spaces, community gardens and environmental conservation efforts.
  • Community Growth and Revitalization – ‘Main Street’ renovations, historic buildings being repurposed for new uses, new businesses and housing developments and public spaces being reimagined.
  • The Next Generation of County Leadership and Residents – Youth engagement in government, new county employees and students learning about civic responsibility.

In addition to the photo(s), each submission must include the location (including the county), date taken, name of photographer and the entrant’s contact information.

Entries must be submitted by Wednesday, April 30 by email to NYSAC Multimedia Specialist Katie Pierce-Nimz at kpierce@nysac.org.

Five winning photos will be selected to be published in the spring/summer edition of the NYSAC News magazine and featured in NYSAC’s 2026 “Counties in Focus” calendar.

NYSAC works closely with local officials, providing them with training, education and research on public policy, and enabling them to have the necessary tools to deliver efficient and effective services to constituents. Each year, the organization holds a spring legislative conference and a fall seminar, offering numerous workshops and webinars to help educate members on topics of interest and importance to counties.

Members also participate in the NYSAC County Government Institute (CGI), a certification and education program for county officials that educates leaders on the pillars of good government, including leadership, integrity and accountability.
